A new apprenticeship scheme has been announced by Whitbread which will see the creation of 1,000 jobs in the UK.
The
company, which is the country's largest hotel and restaurant group, has
plans to open 12 new hotels, four restaurants and 100 coffee shops over
the next year.
Furthermore, the apprenticeship scheme can be
completed in six months – half the time of a normal NVQ - and will see
employees receive NVQ level 2 and Key Skill certificates.
All current staff are welcome to join the programme, however it especially targets the 1,000 new apprentices.
Whitbread
chief executive Alan Parker said: "We need to keep demonstrating that
working in the hospitality industry is a great career move, not just a
job.
"We anticipate that 20 per cent of our workforce will have a nationally recognised qualification by 2010."
Whitbread currently employs over 33,000 people and serves 8.5 million customers at its various outlets every month.
